Jimmy Vesey has finally found a home. The New York Rangers signed the 23-year-old Harvard left winger to a two-year entry-level contract this evening; ending the 2016 Vesey Summer Tour.
Being a Hobey Baker Award winner doesn’t always translate to success in the NHL, so Vesey has certainly put the spotlight on himself after failing to sign with the Buffalo Sabers and parading himself around from NHL-city to NHL-city this summer.
Vesey was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the 3rd round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After informing Nashville he was not interested in playing with the Preds, his negotiating rights were traded to the Buffalo Sabers back in late June. Flash forward almost two months later and Vesey is officially a Ranger.
Time to put up or shut up Vesey. Rangers fans have long memories and won’t forget this fiasco if you don’t produce right out of the gates.
