QUEENS, NY – The New York Mets will honor 2016 Hall of Fame inductee Mike Piazza on Saturday evening by retiring his No. 31. Piazza, who spent eight seasons in New York, is arguably one of the greatest offensive catchers in MLB history. Players will also wear a commemorative Mike Piazza patch on their sleeves.
Piazza’s signature Mets moment came shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. For people old enough to remember, particularly New Yorkers, it is one of the greatest moments in MLB history.
