In an open letter to Zach Randolph from general manager Chris Wallace and team president Jason Wexler published Thursday, the Memphis Grizzlies announced they will retire his No. 50 after eight seasons with the franchise.
Here’s an excerpt of the letter thanking him for the “special” time with the organization; agreed to join the Sacramento Kings earlier this week on a two-year, $24 million deal.
While there will be a time and place to recognize your lasting impact in Memphis, starting today, as stated earlier by Controlling Owner, Robert Pera, number 50 will never be worn by any other member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Randolph, known as Z-Bo to Memphis faithful, defined Grizzlies basketball and the Grit-N-Grind era. He was a hard-nosed player for the franchise embraced by the community and fans around the league.
